Perfect for Thanksgiving Day with family and friends, Alaskans can watch both nights of Quyana Alaska, the Native cultural performances held during the Alaska Federation of Natives’ annual convention last October, and then catch the many memorable moments from the 2013 Convention over the next three days.  Something great to watch while we bake the Thanksgiving dinner, enjoy it with our loved ones, and then enjoy the leftovers the rest of the week.

360 North, Alaska’s public affairs channel distributed statewide by public television, is rebroadcasting the live television coverage of the AFN Convention and Quyana nights in their entirety.  The gavel-to-gavel coverage, produced by Blueberry Productions of Anchorage, originally aired October 24-26. Among the several must-see moments that are the buzz of post-convention discussion:

  • the powerful testimony of the Tanana 4H Youth group, a call to action for addressing suicide in Alaska
  • the largest dance group to ever hit the Quyana stage, the Tanana Traditional Dancers
  • the AFN Subsistence Committee’s report about the right to co-manage resources, stating emphatically the fact that subsistence hunting and fishing is a way of life essential to the survival of Native peoples
  • the ever-popular AFN President’s Awards

Rebroadcast AFN 360 North

The re-broadcast begins Thursday, November 28 (Thanksgiving Day) at 8:30 am with Quyana, the celebration of Native dance and music from every region of Alaska.  Both nights of Quyana will air back to back, concluding at 2:30 pm.

The broadcast continues 8:30 am to 5 pm Friday through Sunday with in-depth coverage of the AFN Convention.
