Helen Bolen "Tuuqpuq" is the youngest child of Arthur R. Fields, Sr. and the late Marie (Mitchell) Fields. Her grandparents are the late Leela and Gordon Mitchell of Noatak and Alice (Hobson) Sheldon and Conrad Simonsen Field of Kotzebue and Norway. Ms. Bolen was born in a tent at the North Tent Ciry in Kotzebue and was delivered by her great aunt, the late Dr. Della Keats. She and her husband Tom have four children and either grandchildren.

Ms. Bolen graduated from Kotzebue High School in her junior year; she earned her Associates Degree from the University of Alaska and is currently working on her Bachelors Degree in the Rural Development Program at the University of Alaska Chukchi Campus. Her past employment was at NANA Regional Corporation for four years, City of Kotzebue for seven years, and Maniilaq Association for 20 years, serving as President/CEO for the last five years.
