New AFN workshop, Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative

1199

Please join Mr. Paul Mussenden, Interior Deputy Assistant Secretary for Natural Resources Revenue, for a discussion on U.S. implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, and its relevance to Alaska Native communities.  The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Standard is a voluntary, global effort designed to strengthen accountability and public trust for the revenues paid and received to national governments for a country’s oil, gas and mineral resources. Countries that follow the standard, publish a report in which governments and companies publicly disclose royalties, rents, bonuses, taxes and other payments from oil, gas, and mining resources. The Standard has two core elements:

  1. Companies publish what they pay and governments publish what they receive in an EITI Report.
  2. This process is overseen by a multi-stakeholder group of representatives from governments, companies and civil society
This workshop is on Thursday, October 24th at 11 am to 12 pm in the Media Room in the Carlson Center
