In address to Congress, President Obama calls the right to vote ‘sacred.’

Obama and Congress 2015

In his 2015 State of the Union address to Congress, President Obama challenged Congress to go beyond the status quo and improve the Voting Rights Act.

“We may go at it in campaign season, but surely we can agree that the right to vote is sacred; that it’s being denied to too many; and that, on this 50th anniversary of the great march from Selma to Montgomery and the passage of the Voting Rights Act, we can come together, Democrats and Republicans, to make voting easier for every single American.”

Alaska Natives truly value the right to vote. Removing barriers and encouraging all Alaskans to register and participate is critically important to us. 2015 is the year for lasting progress.
