Our heartfelt condolences to the family of Major General John”Qipqina” Schaeffer, who died on August 29. His distinguished career of service to Alaska Native peoples and all Alaskans stretched from land claims to leadership of NANA Regional Corporation, the Northwest Arctic Borough, and AFN.
The funeral service is scheduled for Aug. 31 at 11 a.m. in the Kotzebue High School gymnasium with the burial to follow at Ivik. A community potluck will be held at the Kotzebue High/Middle School cafeteria at 6 p.m.
