DOT: Consultation and Coordination with Indian Tribal Governments

May 6, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The U.S. Department of Transportation (Department) is preparing to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) regarding the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) discretionary program established by the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The SS4A program will provide $5-6 billion in grant funding over the next 5 years. The funding will support Tribal, regional, and local initiatives to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries.

To carry out the principles in E.O. 13175, “Consultation and Coordination with Indian Tribal Governments”, and to afford our Tribal partners an opportunity to provide meaningful input regarding the development and implementation of the eligibility criteria for the SS4A discretionary program as allowed by the authorizing statute, and to inform how Tribes may apply for the SS4A program funds, the Department will be hosting a Tribal Consultation on Friday, May 6, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. EST.

We anticipate the NOFO will be published in May of 2022. Prior to the publication of the NOFO, however, we look forward to hearing your comments and insight regarding how the program eligibility criteria may be structured to best achieve the goals and objectives of this new discretionary safety program.

You can access the Tribal Consultation zoom link by clicking HERE.

If prompted, the passcode is 195991 and the meeting ID is 161 981 5458.

Please know we welcome and value your input, including recommendations for actions the Department should continue to take to work with Indian Tribes on a government-to-government basis and any new steps that can be taken in order to better facilitate the nation-to nation relationship. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Milo Booth, Director of Tribal Affairs at (202) 309-9786 or [email protected] or [email protected].
